Through our travels we are privileged to meet many interesting people…
Last November in Brazil during one of our kite camps we met some Camille, a young girl full of enthusiasm for kiting with whom we quickly hit it off … and since every good session in Brazil often ends with a little caipirinha we took advantage of the time and discussed the respective projects we were currently involved in.
Camille was at that time wearing two beautiful bracelets that caught our attention (yes, us gils can’t help it) but these were a long way from being mere every day jewellery. In fact this contemporary jewellery sold by Article 22, a brand helping to allow entire families in Laos to live from the production of recycled metal from bombs.
Through further conversation we learned that this inspiring young woman was the founder and head of social development of the brand Article 22.
It can be surprising to see how human beings can create and inspire something from nothing and use this to completely change lives.
We are not going to give you a written history lesson of political conflict in Laos that subjected it to such violence and horror however we encourage you to watch the short film shown below about the work of artisans of the village of Ban Naphia against the backdrop of a secret war which raged from 1964-1973, giving Laos the unenviable title of the most bombed country in modern history.
Article 22 has two collections. The first A22.1 offers a sleek design and the second A22.2 offers more abstract creations embellished with semi-precious stones. Both collections were created as part of the PeaceBomb project.
PeaceBomb is made from a mix of several sources of aluminium, such as fin stabilisation shells, pieces of submunitions and metal hardware from aircraft and other debris.
