The Spot
Explora our kite school is based in Essaouira, Morocco, we are lucky enough to have our centre right on the beach in front of the kitesurfing spot
The main spot we focus on is Essaouira but we will also look at kite trips to the local spots of Sidi Kaouki and Moulay for advanced wave clinics
Essaouira spot description
GREAT CONDITIONS, LOTS OF SPACE, CHARM & CULTURE.. WITH THE ODD CAMEL OR TWO
Essaouira is a magical place, the huge expanse of beach offers you space and freedom (if there are 20 kites and windsurfers on the water it’s a busy day) whilst the old medina and harbour give Essaouira it soul offering you a great mix of culture, food and insight into a charming way of life.
Essaouira is known as Africa’s windy city, the wind is the most consistent from April through to end September, the wind is still OK from October to December with wind 60-70% of the time, it then drops from January to end February and picks up again in March.
The spot is a large sandy bay circa 5km long directly in front of the town, the best kiting and windsurfing is towards the left side of the bay, away from the city, where the beach is less crowded and the wind is much more constant.
The curved shape of the bay and cross on wind make it a really safe spot for learning and progressing.
Explora and Mistral are one of the only schools that offer safety boat
Flat water can be found to the right of the spot, waves can be found to the left of the spot.
The Weather
Essaouira is one of those envious places where the summer isn’t too hot and the winter isn’t too cold, during the summer the temperature is around 25-30 degrees.

The Kite Centres
Explora
Explora is a VDWS and IKO centre which teaches kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and SUP. They are located at the ideal spot the other side of the bay from the town (15-20 minutes walk from the town) if you leave the town and follow the beach until you get to a row of buildings, we are the third building along, past Beach & Friends Café, (sun loungers, drinks and food available) then Panoramic Café (Tea, Coffee and Snacks available) we are next door to here.
Dependent on the conditions most lesson are right in front of the centre, as this is the prime spot for kiting and windsurfing, surf lessons are to the left or right dependent on the waves.
Showers and changing facilities are on-site as well as a rescue boat
Other activities; quad biking, mountain biking, horse riding pick up point is also at our centre.
Club-Mistral
Located two doors down from Explora and teaches kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and SUP
Kite Morocco
Located a few minutes from the beach at the Riad Zahra hotel.
