5 Reasons Why You Should Fly a C-Kite for Freestyle

Not sure if you should be flying a C-kite? Have you heard it is not as safe as other kites or are you just not sure if it is for you. We look at why it is the perfect kite choice for freestyle.

Before we start we just want to say that of course  you don’t HAVE TO to fly a C-kite to be able to do freestyle and of course you can still get your tricks with many other kites … however we are going to explain in 5 simple points why riding a C-kite can give you everything you need to maximise your freestyle potential.

1. You get a safer and more controlled relaunch

With a 5th line you can hold back some of the power in the relaunch even when it is gusting 30 knots…

The 5th line also helps you to relaunch your kite quicker in a smaller space which can be useful for competition riding and confined space. Most C-kites will also not relaunch ‘automatically’ so you have a moment to look around you and check your situation. Of course this takes a little getting used to, but once mastered it is the ‘ultimate’ security system.

2. Your be able to acheive a more powerful and controlled pop

With a C-kite the pop is generated by loading your edge and long and hard as possible against the force of your kite.

This enables you to have much greater control over the height and power of your pop through the edge control of your board.

3. You get a much better slack in your lines

One of the most important elements in freestyle is the slack in the lines allowing you to pass the bar and finish your trick.

Because of the way a C-kite drifts back in the window after the force of your aggressive pop you get great ‘slack’ in the lines which enable the passing of the bar with minimal pull from the kite therefore keeping your shoulders intact.

4. A C-kite is NOT dangerous

Contrary to popular belief a C-kite is not more dangerous than any other kite. In fact with modern advancements in  safety combined with a 5th line security it can be safer than any other 4 line kite.

Although your wind range may be slightly less for each size, you will have much greater control and feeling as the rider.

5. You have a more direct connection to your kite

Take away the bridles and you have a much more direct connection and feeling with your kite which means more responsive feedback and steering and a greater knowledge of where your kite is through the bar.

This allows greater awareness and adjustments of kite position during tricks.
