These days if we have an idea and it is a good one, raising funds to power that idea can be done through crowd-funding sites like KickStarter meaning more and more people are able to launch cool new products.
The way it works is that you back this idea with a donation, and the bigger the donation the better present you get from the company in the end from stickers and t-shirts to test and fully functioning products before anyone else.
One such company we learned of recently is HyrdoFlex. Originally making surfboards (http://www.hydroflex-surfboards.com/) with a unique patented 3D glassing technique, they found they had a lot of waste material in the process and so turned their waste into an idea, and have begun making unique honeycomb composite skateboards which are waterproof and look amazing.
For pledging anything from $90 – $200 you can be the first to have one of these amazing boards and also support an idea become a reality.
